Vicky Farewell, 'Sweet Company'
This classically trained pianist has written for Childish Gambino and Anderson .Paak
Vicky Farewell (Vicky Nguyen) made Line of Best Fit and Atwood earlier this year for album Sweet Company with Mac DeMarco’s record label. I’m way overdue for a review as I’ve listened to this album at least three times in its entirety. She’s (not surprisingly) very good live - here’s her live on synth singing her breakout track “Are We OK?” on Tim Heidecker:
This performance features equally clear vocals as the studio track with a hint of extra edge and bonus synth riffs not previously heard. “Are We OK?” remains the highlight of the album for me, which overall is very ‘80s / early ‘90s stylistically, replete with reverbed drum beats backing tracks heavy with Farewell’s own chorus vocals and electronic keyboard — all together an impressive one-woman set.
